DIGITAL USERS CHALLENGES AND NEEDS IN RWANDA

Brief:
A boutique company specializing in digital literacy solutions and product development, sought to understand the challenges faced by individuals in Kigali, Rwanda, who are new to technology and struggle with basic mobile apps. To gain these insights, they approached Webhaptic Intelligence to conduct a pilot study.

Approach:
Webhaptic Intelligence employed a qualitative approach, using a discussion guide to conduct pilot interviews. A total of 8 participants, all of whom were new to technology and found it challenging to use basic mobile apps, were recruited for the study. The participants were specifically asked about their knowledge and usage of Irembo, a government website and app.

Outcome:
The pilot study revealed that some participants had been taught to navigate their apps by family members, while others expressed a willingness to pay to learn how to use features on apps like WhatsApp. Additionally, it was noted that many participants were unable to self-navigate the Irembo platform, highlighting a gap in digital literacy.
